BALTIMORE, MARYLANDPremier Concrete is working in concert with Kinsley Construction, Obrecht Commercial Real Estate and Focus Development  to renovate and reconstruct the old Gunther Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Started in 2011, the finished project will be home to 162 LEED Silver certified apartments and contain more than 5,000 square feet of restaurant space with outdoor seating. The finished development project will also meet all requirements of the National Historic Registry.

Located in Southeast Baltimore, Gunther Brewery is an historic brewery comprised of 15 masonry buildings. The building was home to George Gunther, Jr. Brewing Company, founded in 1900. By 1959, Gunther was the second largest brewery in Baltimore when it produced 800,000 barrels per year and employed approximately 600 people. The brewery was eventually purchased by Hamm’s in 1960 and later acquired by the F&M Schaefer Brewing Company in 1963, the plant was closed in 1978. The Tulkoff company briefly used the factory for their sauce products at the conclusion of all brewing operations.

“It is a privilege to be working with such a fantastic project team on a famous Baltimore landmark,” says Premier Concrete President, Jim Workmeister. “Like any project, the concrete foundation and finishing work will serve the many residents and patrons of the Gunther building for many decades to come. This project is another example of the Premier team helping shape Baltimore’s impressive landscape.”
