BALTIMORE, MARYLAND—Premier Concrete is working in concert with The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company to renovate the historic Rouse Company Building into a Whole Foods Market in Columbia, Md.

The four-floor structure will undergo extreme restoration and renovation, with plans to remove the second floor in order to create a double height space for the store. Whole Foods Market will occupy the main level, with a fitness center on the lower level.

Located on Lake Kittamaqundi, the former headquarters of the Rouse Company is an iconic centerpiece of downtown Columbia. Designed and built by renowned architect Frank Gehry for Columbia founder, James Rouse, the structure represents the pioneering vision Rouse had in building and creating the planned community of Columbia in the 1960s.

The introduction of a Whole Foods Market will be the first of its kind within proximity to downtown Columbia. The nearest Whole Foods Market is currently located in Harbor East in Baltimore.

“We are excited to be a part of the team bringing the first Whole Foods Market to the Columbia area,” says Premier Concrete Vice President, Steve Workmeister. “We look forward to the finished project and hope the community enjoys the new addition.”

The restoration and renovation project commenced in March 2013, with Premier Concrete joining the team in May. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2014.
